Happy New Year everyone! It's been a long winter but the reenacting season is starting up once more. We've got the ball, Ft. Point, elections, and more fun.
If you're coming to Ft. Point, please fill out and bring the following forms:
I've attached all the forms to this email to make it easy for you. I've also attached a flyer for Ft. Point so you can help spread the word.
Finally: please RSVP for Ft. Point (see below).
2011 was a rough year for many of us, and I sincerely hope 2012 is a better year for everyone. I very much look forward to seeing you all again soon.
I remain,
Your obedient servant,
--J.I. Koplowicz, Captain
69th NYSV, Co B.
I only received one candidate statement for each position. If anyone else is interested in running, email me asap and I'll send out another email. You can also put your name forward when we take the vote at Ft. Point. If you can't make it to Ft. Point but want to vote anyway, let me know and I will make sure your vote gets counted.
My name is Jordan Koplowicz and I am once again running for Captain. I've fulfilled most of my campaign promises from last year, including more drill. :-) I think we're now the best looking and best trained unit on the field. I've now got all the unit gear in my possession, and the trailer, which I'm going to start towing to events. The unit now has powder, caps, and rolling paper for sale. We marched in the St. Patrick's Day Parade for the first time in years, and won first place.
I know I've come down hard on some of you about not drinking enough water. I think I've come down a little too hard. Some people need to learn the hard way, including some of our best veterans (Billy, Anne, and Wyatt). I'm going to keep reminding, but I'll try not to be a jerk about it.
My plans for 2012 include selling full rolling kits, sewing guidons (flank marker flags), and much more recruiting. Also, last year the unit bought a couple dozen song books from Josh Zollo but hardly anyone has bought one. I think we should give these away to unit members as a "membership perk." Let's vote on this at Ft. Point. I'd like to see more Irish Brigade singing, both on the march and in camp. I also want to bring back the live fire event.
I may not have been a perfect commanding officer, but I learned a lot and with your permission I'd like to try again. I am humbly asking for your vote to continue as Captain of Company B.
James Feaga is running for 1st Sergeant but was unable to submit a candidate statement in time. Instead, please know that he has my (Jordan's) endorsement. James is the best executive officer I've ever seen and the unit wouldn't be what it is today without his leadership and hard work. I don't know anyone else who could do the job as well, so I am asking you to join me in voting for James as First Sergeant.
I want to throw my hat in the ring for the corporal position with the 69th NYVI Co. B. I was a member in the ACWA for a year at one time and now I am joining again as a new member and finding out there is a need for two corporals. I started in reenacting with the NCWA back in 1990 with the 69th NYSM Co.A and then transferred to the 1st USSS when they were forming with 3 members and was the 5th for them. I was with the club for 8 yrs then dropped out for personnel reasons. I was doing a local unit in sonoma county with 16 guys for 3 yrs and attending Angel Island and Ft Point as I also did with the NCWA years before. I was a docent at ft Point for 3 yrs and also park assistant at Angel Island with Dan Winkelman. I was a 1st sgt with my local group and learned alot from the 69th and my old Capt. Richard Staley who pushed on being the best, and with my love for the Civil War since I was 11 years old and doing various research and grave stone dedications for years I feel that my position as corporal will be a asset to the unit in helping and making the unit good and strong for future new recruits and helping all who are there now. SO my hat is in there and you decide.
Thanks,
Steven Martin
The next Fort Point Living History event will be Saturday Jan 28th 2012. If you are only interested in attending for the day, you do not need to RSVP (unless you have a special demonstration you want to present).
If you want to stay overnight on Saturday Jan 28th, please email Jordan (jordan@koplowicz.com) the following info by January 15th:
1) name (or names if multiple people)
2) unit and club
3) cell / home phone
4) email address
5) let us know if you are under 18 years of age. If so, and not attending with your parent, you will need to provide your parent's names and cell phones, and the name of a temporary guardian.
For those staying the night, we will probably just have a pizza dinner unless someone wants to volunteer to set up a battalion mess. We will need some help setting up a simple breakfast (oatmeal, coffee, fruit, etc). The total cost for both meals will need to be worked out, but may be around $7 per person.
Mike Musante will be at the Fort on Saturday Jan 28th but Jordan Koplowicz will be there for the entire weekend. Reenactors are welcome to stay until 5pm on Sunday Jan 29th if they want.
Since we can not have open flame (firepits OR candles), you will need to bring battery operated candles for the overnighter. In the past I found some at TJMaxx (Homegoods), Costco, or Walgreens.
